Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
