Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
